Colton California is home to many industries and shops. It's a hub of commerce located about 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Rail yards have large facilities here distributing goods from the Port of LA throughout the country. Union Pacific Railroad also has a large Locomotive Maintenance facility here. We were fortunate to have been given a tour of this incredible state of the art facility.

They don't use a roundhouse anymore, instead they have a transfer track. This track acts as a linear slide for the locomotives to be positioned in the right slot for service.

Once in the immaculately clean facility the locomotive is positioned over the pit for maintenance as extensive as engine overhauls.

On the North side of the San Gabriel Mountains is Devil's Punchbowl County Park.
